Each year when it comes time to pick a location for the Regals Christmas party, we have only one goal: to get as many people to turn up as possible! Over the years we’ve held our Christmas parties at Penrith Panthers, Winston Hills Hotel, “The Garage” at Sydney Motorsport Park, the Wagon Wheel Hotel and the club’s very first Christmas party venue back in 2009; Prospect Reservoir.

For the 2016 Christmas Party, we had narrowed it down to two options: dinner, drinks and trivia at the Wagon Wheel Hotel (the same as last year), or a lunchtime BBQ at Prospect Reservoir. We put the choices forward at the September general meeting, and the decision to go with the Prospect Reservoir BBQ was unanimous among the members present.

The weather really turned on the charm for the day, and we secured ourself a nice, shady spot at the bottom picnic area. Thankfully we came well equipped with our own BBQ, as there wasn’t a single public BBQ anywhere. I’m not sure if this has always been the case, or whether they have taken the BBQs away recently. The whole area seems to be under some construction, so I’m hoping that they will dedicate some resources to the picnic areas in the near future.

We had a turnout of around 30, including partners and kids, which is pretty good for a Regals Christmas party. It’s a busy time of year for most people, so we really appreciate it when they can make the time for the club. There was also a fantastic turnout of Mopars.

George was on the BBQ, cooking up delicious lamb souvlaki in pita bread for lunch (actually, it was more like a late breakfast) and there were plenty of cold drinks available too. The conversation flowed and everyone seemed to have a great time.

I think the highlight of the day came when the local cub scout group at the next picnic area asked a few of the members if they would like to join in with the kids for a quick game of tug-of-war. There were lots of laughs, a few airborne thongs, and thankfully no cub scouts were squashed in the process.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the day, and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
